What is chess?










CHESS is a game for two players. The BOARD is divided into sixty-four squares of contrasting colours. It is placed between the players so that each player has a light coloured corner square in his RIGHT. The pieces are placed on the board according Fig 1. Each player has sixteen PIECES all of the same colour.

Before the commencement, one player takes one piece of each colour in each hand, and the other player then chooses one hand, and in doing so, select the colour he will be playing with. The player who chooses the lighter coloured piece open the game.
